Wood also worked as a freelance consultant for the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, and Chicago Office of Fine Arts. In 1986, Woods was employed as a consultant and fine arts representative at Cousins and Associates. From 1980 to 1985, Woods worked as the Executive Director for the South Shore Cultural Center. In 1978, Woods served as Executive Director/Secretary for the Illinois Library Association. In 1972, he began work in the Chicago Public Library system and held positions as an Assistant Curator of African-America, television producer, branch librarian, and Chief of Acquisitions. He received his Masters of Library Information Science in 1972 from University of Illinois.įrom 1968 to 1980, Woods worked in many Chicago libraries, beginning as an Assistant Librarian and Public Services Supervisor of the Main Reading Room at the Newberry Library. As a student Woods was awarded a Carnegie Institute fellowship and was a member of the Veterans Honor Society. Woods joined the Air Force in 1964 and served until he was granted an honorable discharge in 1968.Īlfred Woods attended San Antonio College, University of Mississippi, Roosevelt University, Loop Junior College, and Morehouse College before earning his Bachelor of Arts from University of Illinois, Chicago in 1971.
